The danger of DUI car accidents shown in fatal Georgia crash

On Behalf of | Nov 15, 2018 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Any car accident in Georgia can lead to injuries and fatalities. People who head out on the road should be cognizant of their surroundings and make every effort to be as safe and cautious as possible to avoid accidents. In some cases, there is no avoiding car accidents and a crash occurs. In a worst-case scenario, it can result in a fatality. There are many reasons for car accidents to occur, including distracted driving, negligence, recklessness, drowsy driving and one of the riskiest behaviors behind the wheel: driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Those who have been hurt or lost a loved one in an accident must remember that they may have the right to seek compensation in a legal filing.

According to reports, a recent two-vehicle accident led to the death of a 64-year-old woman. The accident involved a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2018 Kia Sorrento. The woman who died was a passenger in the Chevy. Her 66-year-old husband was driving. According to the accident investigation, the Kia, driven by a 21-year-old female, was going south in the wrong lane while the Chevy was going north. It crashed into the front of the Chevy. The Kia went down an embankment. The Chevy ended up straddling both lanes.

The driver of the Chevy said he urgently turned to the right when he saw the Kia heading towards him, trying to avoid a crash. The vehicles still collided. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead. The driver of the Kia had two children under the age of four in the vehicle with her. They were taken to the hospital, as was the man driving the Chevy. The driver of the Kia is facing DUI charges.

With car accidents, there will be a litany of issues that must be addressed. That can include medical expenses, loss of ability to work and the need for rehabilitation and aftercare. This can be costly. When there is a fatality, the family left behind will need to get through the emotional, personal and financial impact of such an unexpected incident. A lawsuit and financial compensation could help with costs and allow them the time to move forward.

The investigation into this recent accident is continuing and as it does, the woman’s family must make sure they know their legal rights after the car accident so they can take the necessary steps to file a lawsuit.
